Special screening of Orson Welles' THE TRIAL (1962) in cooperation with the Vienna Literature Festival on September 11 at 20:15 with an introduction by literature professor and Kafka expert Dr. Rainer Just.

The VLF shows the international side of Austrian and German-language literature and emphasizes the cross-border nature of contemporary literature, while at the same time building on Vienna's rich literary tradition.

With this year's motto: KAFKAFOREVER on the 100th anniversary of his death, the VLF pays tribute to literature's greatest father complex.

Plot Outline

Josef K wakes up in the morning and finds the police in his room. They tell him that he is on trial but nobody tells him what he is accused of. In order to find out about the reason for this accusation and to protest his innocence, he tries to look behind the façade of the judicial system. But since this remains fruitless, there seems to be no chance for him to escape from this nightmare.
